Try replacing the spark plug cap I’ve been told they deteriorate over time

I use contact cleaner on electrics not WD40. Also ACF50 you can buy in bottles with a small applicator bottle - aerosol cans are expensive by comparison. Just spray onto a rag and wipe on. You can also spray into hard to reach places and wipe off. I use it for my Zs when they sit in the garage when salt on the roads. Lasts for ages.

had problems with the paint coming off but never electric.

even full emersion in one of Cornwells Finest and wettest ....took 7 oil changes but still started on the button.

i would say neglect, abuse and irregular washing rather than spending money and time on Spray or inner tubes.

Sounds like a nightmare...I'll stick with carbs for as long as possible!

I'd have thought WD40 would still be OK if sprayed outside the connectors.

Could you use dilectric grease or similar inside them, or would that be a problem.

Yes dielectric/silicone grease unplug pack with the grease and replug no place for water to get inside.
