Husqvarna 701 Enduro your veiws please.
My situation is i have a KTM 350 exc , clocking up the hours very quickly ,not the best on the tarmac.
Dont really fancy taking my 1200 gsa off road as i use it for long distance road work wear s road tyres (Michelin pilot 4s).
So i was thinking of a 701 for trail riding in the summer & other big bike off roading. I often look to do 150 miles plus a day ? Is this the bike for me ?
I did have a Crf 250 L before the Ktm but the suspension was poor, it was to low to ride ruts(pegs/brake kept bending and heavy as a brick for a
small bike. power and power delivery were spot on.

Many thanks in advance.

There's a brand new 701 2016 at £1000 off list at Gear4/Moto4 in Market Deeping.

Thanks for the info but the 2017 has the uprated engine, more power less vibration etc.

At the end of last year, I sold my 400EXC and 950SM and bought a 690 enduro as my only modern bike.
Great fun on the country roads, even with knobblies, and I getting used to it on the trails now. With the fuel held low, I don't notice rhe alleged extra 20kg at all.

Down here in Sussex we have a trail/enduro training day at the end if April so hopefully will improve my skills (not starting from a high level, sadly).

It's no enduro iron but anyone with some talent would make good use of it - it was good enough for Dakar back n the day.

Husky seem to be blinging up the 701 to make it much different bike than the 690, not a badge engineering job. I loved my brief ride on one prior to buying unseen from Premier Bikes.

Oh, and the service intervals are great now.

Not sure if I'm missing the point ,isn't trail riding for off road bikes with a little bit of tarmac between so not too sure in my own mind about bigger enduro bikes / adventure bikes .350 excf rider ,admitted not great on the black stuff but 1st class at any off road situation .I'll get ready for your abuse !

Well, to my mind, an enduro bike is a massively over engineered trail bike?
With my lack of talent, enduro isn't a sport I embrace although I do like the odd run out.

Having a bike that is capable up to 70(ish ;) ) on the road but still performs just as well on the lanes is a proper dual sport.
Personally I feel the sub 750cc set are the true dual sports.
After that they are Adventure bikes which can handle big distances and reasonably gnarly terrain.
The 690/701 are a natural progression from the DRZ etc. 150kg, 63bhp, knobblies. Where is the lack of fun in that. i am now having a great time blatting round the back roads of East Sussex compared to feeling road conditions and traffic density had rendered me overbiked

Years ago it took five of us to lift Windy's 990 Adv out of a dry but deep stream bed.
Maybe only two would be needed for an enduro bike.

Riding gods, real or self proclaimed, can usually ride anything, anywhere well.

I am certainly happy with my two dual sport and classic bikes. Of course, one can never have too many bikes or cars.

I agree "one can never own enough cars or bikes".

To clarify i will not be getting rid of the 350 exc just adding another "off road" bike.

The KTM 350 exc is about as good as you can get or need unless you really are a top enduro rider, it is great for difficult
& extreme trail riding and the really tricky lanes, but it is a high maintainence piece of kit.

It is more than you need for general trail riding especially in the summer months and not practical on the tarmac, with no mirrors
indicators, low gearing and a fairly small tank range.

My thoughts on a 701, ride at 60mph on tarmac comfortable, decent tank range, long service intervals, capable of carrying kit but pretty
dam good off road for an average rider and not needing to load it in the back of a van if the start point of a ride is under 40 miles away.

Then I would say the 690/701 is exactly what you need :D
I'm not sure there are any real alternatives, mainly due to anything else being maybe 50kg heavier.

Have a look at the SWM650R.
£2000 cheaper!
