When I test rode one the main thing that needed sorting was the bars and seat.

Not designed for those over 5' 8"

post amended to add 2 inch risers :-)

Whats wrong with the seat apart from the silly strap?

You should try a CRF 230/250X . anything over 3 hours .....

Paint it orange and apply large KTM stickers.

You may of course have to change wheel bearings regularly

Honda sell the CRF250L for about £4000 which sounds all well and good.

Then you look at it and wonder where the folding tip levers are, and start looking to see what else is missing.... And by the time you have added up the cost of this and all of the other similar little ommissions needed for it to be a serious trail bike you come to understand why Honda also sell a properly equipped version.....for about £6000

I expect these will flood the second hand market in years to come as the build quality will mean they will last well. I will buy one eventually, but not at that price.

Seat is too squidgy and needs to be higher and thinner. I find that the riding position flexes my knees too much when sitting down.

I guess there's 3 ways to produce a trailbike..

1) Tone down an enduro bike

2) take a road bike and make it more dirt orientated

3) Purpose design a trailbike from scratch.

I would say the CRF 250L seems to be a product of the 2nd approach. Not a bad thing as the engines service intervals show. It's certainly aimed at a wide market including those that will never get it muddy.

Agree with 2 especially when cruising home at 70 mph

Okay folks lets have a bit more specific info on the mods carried out

Bars risers, from whom and cost - link

Ditto alloy sump guard - link

Ditto mirrors - link

Tyre sizes, as the OE ones are old fashioned sizes so sizes front and rear.

So if there are some other mods then please post them up.

I dont think Honda list many accessories, but do some of the CFR250X fit?

I have no idea if the ones you fitted on the X version will fit teh L version, likewise I have know idea where to get them from.

I guess dirt bikes would be a place for me to start looking for bits.

So pointers in all directions for accessories and mods will be appreciated.
