Hi all again.
My Honda XR 125 is still a work in progress, unfortunately work is getting in the way of getting stuck in for long!

I have removed the swing arm to tidy it up and have discovered that there is quite a lot rust inside it (flakes falling out). It’s made of box mild steel. Is it possible to cure the rust and how would I prevent it rusting if I was ever lucky enough to buy a new bike?

Cheers

Stu

Firstly identify how the water got in.

Often the culprits are missing chain guard bolts, or via the threads for chain adjusters.

You could stick some rust remover gel inside the swing arm to clean it - might be a bit ott though.

Drying it out (with heat) then squirting plenty of rust converter (Kurust) should halt the corrosion. After this has had time to dry you could squirt waxoyl or similar inside.

Make sure you replace any missing bolts and seal any holes that allow water to enter.

Some people drill drain holes (small) at the low point of the SA.

Waxoyl is good, you can get it in spray cans with a wand.
