Hi all. Anybody know of any decent trails in Durham? I live in Chester-Le-Street and there is a load of fell land nearby that I hear bikes on but unsure whether its actually legal or not?

Only got a WR125R atm but will be buying a WR250R once I pass my test

Beware, Jon.
Waldridge Fell is not an area to ride without permission. I can only think of two legitimate lanes nearby - one at Pelton and one at Ouston.
However, there are miles and miles of trails up the Tyne Valley, Wear Valley and Teesdale.

Thanks Cubber. Where exactly are the trails in Pelton and Ouston? I know Pelton pretty well

The Ouston trail is from the Easterrn entry road into Kibblesworth to turn right to pass Kibblesworth Grange, Cooper House and Riding Farm, crossing a stream (start trickle of the River Team) and landing you at Urpeth.

The Pelton trail is from Newfield (near PO with call box), Southwards crossing Twizell Burn to the B6313 at Grange Terrace near Whitehill

be carefull with those two trails,make sure they have vehicular rights the full length,it would appear not on a map.

Yes, sorry, I should have qualified my last post.
I used those two trails, and many more, quite often when I lived in Derwentside.
I moved to Devon over two years ago and, therefore, I'm not aware of the current status of those Geordie lanes - but I've used them many times in the past.

However, since moving down here I do know that Devon must the trail capital of England.
There are hundreds of catalogued, mapped and fully legit trails in the county. There are easy, technical, craggy, rutted, rocky, tidal, steep, streamed, forded, muddy - you name it and Devon has it.
The Devon Group of the TRF is very active, very friendly and meet regularly. Some members also manage to consume MANY pasties.

Spartanhead, if you meet with your local TRF lads I reckon they would point you in the right direction.
If you're not a TRF member then consider joining to acquire all the knowledge about the network of available routes in your area.
It's definitely well worth it.
