Tyres: ditch the TKC's. Mitas co2 rear and michelin desert front will work well on M4 and the lanes. Don't use rimlocks. pressures at 18 - 22 psi, more on the motorway. Low psi, tarmac, and 690's dont mix!!

Do I sense a touch of pain (physical or mental) in that post?

It was your last sentence - seemed to have a hint of 'oh dear' to it.
Never mind.

Pleased to see you are still on the 690. I miss mine for all round ability and even thinking of chopping the EXC400 in for another 690 !

Drop the 400 on your leg and then ask yourself if you still want the 690 :D

My mate dropped his Aprilia 750 in a car park on Sunday and his body cushioned the fall so he only bent the clutch lever.
It took 4 guys to lift the bike off him and they were more concerned about the bike... and he was more concerned about his brand new £400 Arai.

Doug - get a road bike and keep your 400.

Cheers,

Had a nightmare this winter trying to keep the thing upright in the mud for more than 45 minutes on the TKCs, even down to 8psi.

Am poised to chop it back in for a 250excf again as I don't use much on the road anymore.

Saw some Bridgestone ED660s which looked useful though,
but she's a big lass! Got to have arms like Popeye!
