Hi! Thinking of swapping my XR250 for a TTR600RE anybody any experience of the TTR on the trail. Some reviews say it is 153kilos, others say 135 or so. Possibly a tad to heavy for the more nadgery trails. brianbaroo.

A buddy of mine occasionally uses an XT600 and handles it better than me on a TTR250 (that's not saying much ). The only 'issue' is that the side stand snapped in half. Don't know if it's the same stand as yours.

I ride a CCM 644 DS and find it great fun out on the trails. Providing you are tall and big enough to man handle a larger capacity bike you should be fine

Hi,

I have a pretty bog standard TTR600RE I've used a few times for ride outs on the Surrey lanes, so nothing too long.
I'm only just above a novice level, so possibly not the best bike to use, but never had any probs keeping up with someone of similar ability on a DRZ400 for example?

Yeah, having to pick it up out of heavy mud a few times would get old quickly, but luckily I have only gone down a handful of times, ahem.

Someone on an XR400, or any KTM, is going to disappear if they want to, but that's hardly the point is it?

I have Pirelli MT21s on it and it's nice and comfy, happy cruising at 70 ish on the ride back (unlike aformentioned KTMS etc!)...

I'm moving the bike to my girlfriends place near Salisbury, hopefully this weekend, so looking forward to longer rides on some of the tank trails etc, i suspect it is better suited to this sort of terrain, we shall see!

In summary, a good compromise, and a bit different!

Dave

The variation in weight is most probably dry versus wet weights (Dry = No fuel, oil and often no battery)

I used to have a TT600 about 15 years ago and coped OK on that.

Had an XT600E in 2008 and that was a bit of a handful, at 150kg dry but largely due to tyres (Tourances)

I now ride a CCM 604E (132 kg dry) and on proper tyres and it's a hoot

I am 6' 1" though....

I have a 650cc class bike and a XR250R and both bikes are a hoot in different ways

As long as you plan ahead, don't lead in and use your head a 650cc bike is good tool, plenty of power and decent suspension help and you learn to steer with the rear wheel

The 250 is best for nadgery stuff, but the chassis lets it down when the pace gets faster

The 650cc bike is a breeze on the road and will easily surpass 100mph, with a little to spare
