Planning a trip to Sailsbury plains this weekend. I have an OS map of the area and there seems to be loads of lanes, possibly enough to spend most off the time off the roads? I have no set route planned just going to go down and make it up as I go along.

Anyway is there anywhere that I can find out what might be closed off to the army this weekend?

Obviously i'm going to avoid the "danger area" on the map and any signs etc when i'm out. Anything else I should be aware of before I set off?

Thanks in advance

Quite simple really Ben. Just keep outside any red flagged areas. Would be a good idea to go on the Salisbury Plain Training Area website for info on live firing. Just google it.

Look both ways and show caution/stop at all junctions and all cross roads/tracks. Not only do tanks/mod vehicles have right of way on most tracks there might be a 4x4 or other trail rider or tossers on crossers coming from any direction. Also don't stray from the tracks especially on the ranges if they're open.

Things are usually quiet on the Plain in August.

Watch out for wet chalk...it's slippery!

On the days when Imber village is open the area around is pretty busy...there is even a bus service to Imber. So, unless you specifically want to see Imber, there are probably better days to go.
