Frankly you can just get the OS maps and go...everything is well signposted and Wilts Council has a good on-line map too.

What dates, I'll take you out if I'm free. Never pay for a guide! You're in the trf! That's half the point of it isn't it? A coffee and pasty is the most it would set you back and even then not mandatory.

Thanks Smokin' :)

Normally I would agree with map reading (see another topic) on your own patch but on a weekend away in a strange land, masses of time would be lost stopping, reading maps and getting going again etc etc. Too easy to pick the duff lanes and miss the good ones.
There is nothing wrong with being guided and it makes the day/weekend so much nicer for all concerned.

On our recent trip to Wales, we would probably only have done half of what we did if we had to find our own way around.

Wales = very difficult to relate what's on the map to what's on the ground.

Wiltshire = very easy. Signs are clear, routes well-defined. The Plain is particularly easy thanks to the MoD's clear signing and (unique SFAIK) Permissive Byways!

Check this out

http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/row-salisbu ... -guide.pdf

And check this to ensure the areas you wish to ride will be open on the day

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... newsletter

Buy OS sheet 184 and you are good to go!

We have Dan Moore and Dan Birch local to us and ride with both, on occasion.
Not sure which one Chris (exchead) means.
