Maybe I am more hard core, after riding the latest sports bikes for nearly 30 years, some of them had virtually no seat :D
I find the seat quite comfortable, although i stand up 100 percent off road.

For the first 500 or so miles the suspension was a little bit hard, but now its very plush/positive and perfect for trail riding just the tyres to sort.

Mine came with part used Pirelli MT21's with 15psi and they have seemed pretty good so far.
They are ok on the road and work on Sussex hardpack and light mud. Not tried it in proper winter mud yet as we didn't have a proper winter. Also worked surprisingly well on Welsh rocks, considering my total lack of ability.
Trials type dual sports wouldn't work at all, I reckon.

Jonpaul1st is the full time user of a 690 but not sure what he uses.

Michelin Deserts ring a bell from ABR comments.

The one I rode had those Conti semi-knobblies. The back one was OK, but the front was treacherous on snowy/icy/rocky/wet surfaces.

Done a nice 230 mile loop from Newcastle to Windermere, keswick and back on Sunday, just what the 701 was made for. :D
P. S I've tried to add a few photos but no joy, trying to find out of admin why this is.

Hmm, it works on mobile data(although quite large) but not on home broadband, I'll try and add more later.
