guess it all depends if your doing trials or going trail riding.

Not what I would call a suitable bike for trail riding, but its more than capable of doing the job. Cant see you doing a 150 mile day on one!

Greetings Charlie,

They are a great little bike for twin shock trials so will go up any trails but they were never aimed at any sort of distance riding so it might be a bit restricted as to how far you would want to travel on tarmac and don't even think about going on a motorway let alone a dual carriageway :?

If you are happy to bible around where there are a few country lanes close together then fine but not what you might want for a Coast to Coast type of ride.

Enjoy it anyway and see how you get on :)

TTFN

Hugh.

Lovely....for trials.
Not sure I would want to ruin it by trail riding, even with different gearing.

The TLR's sweet spot will be between 0 - 20 MPH and whilst it can probably achieve 50 + MPH mechanical sympathy would suggest that you don't or that quite collectable bike will detonate fairly quickly if you start putting on thousands of miles per year at those sorts of speeds.

A trials bike probably doesn't cover more than 15 miles at a typical event for which they were designed. Trail riding is quite different with 100 miles days being quite typical.

Have any of you ridden one?
Thought not
Better for trails than trials(without mods)
I had a Reflex 200, good on trails and ok at 50mph on the road for mile after mile
Did 6000 miles on mine and apart from routine servicing it was unbreakable

Trials bikes on the road ?
I know someone who has ridden a 1970's Bultaco Sherpa across Spain a few years ago
When I was 17 I put my TY175 back on the road on L plates (had it since I was 13 for schoolboy trials) and put the lights on it, got it mot'd etc and added a 36t rear sprocket
Rode it every day to college every day for 2 years, a round trip of 40 miles a day with even dual carriageway, plus normal teenager running around chasing girls and drinking beer etc and it never missed a beat

A TLR 200 isn't a trials bike - it's a trail/play bike and fully road legal in stock form

You will be fine

Did you post a vid on youtube of riding the marsh lane on your GN ? a while ago.

(assuming your East Sussex based, if indeed it was you. :) .........always good to see different types of bikes on byways,)

Bear in mind that in the era that the TLR and its twin-shock predecessors were designed, a trial wasn't an anti-gravity zone in a quarry where people balanced at a standstill for hours at a time...it was sections of mostly natural terrain, linked by country roads and green lanes.
