Thinking of selling my 690 and getting a 300 exc. I have discounted 4t as they seem to require lots of maintenance based on hours and I'm only going to be green laning, so will rack up the hours quickly.
So what's a 300 2t like to live with from a maintenance point of view? How many hours could I expect on a piston etc.
Thanks
Andy

I've a 250 2t Husky and comfortably got 114 hours and around 2600 miles on its first piston from new. Mixed riding - trails and competition. Run it on 50:1

Oh - I got a 690 as well and if I could have only one bike, it would be the 690 - I use this for competition and trailriding too.

A 300 two stroke needs considerably more maintenance than a 690,even a 350/450 F you change the engine/gearbox box oil as often as the gearbox oil with the 300,the valves on the 350/450 F need doing once in a blue moon wheres the saving?Once you've repaired or thrown away the dreadful electric start that some of the 300s have spent time taking dents out of the header pipe you'll be in deficit with maintenance time, then theres the extra time refuelling and going out of your way to refuel, the cost of two stroke oil and the cost of cancer treatment for the unfortunates following you.

I know the 690 is a great bike,But just had a rocker fail at 3800 miles and a complete engine rebuild, so I fail to see low maintenance.

KTM 300 makes a great trailbike BTW. Don't discount a 4t option though - unless its sub 500cc. You need a 500exc if you're going to the dark side, anything less and 2t is the answer.

I had a rocker fail on mine (a 2009 MY) at 9k miles and just replaced the rocker on it. It now has 45K miles on it. The clutch lasted 43K miles. oil changes every 6k miles. Sprag clutch at 41k miles. Still on the original fork seals. Still gets thrashed every week and ridden year round. Its usually muddy.

Do no discount a Beta 300 2T

Look up reviews on YouTube.

300 is great fun on the trails but not a long distance bike like a 690. So horses for courses.

Oil change every 20 hours, piston every 80 to 100.

I love mine, had a 350 husaberg previously and wouldn't go back.
