So the only bit of armour I'm missing is hip armour and since I got news of a friend ending up in hospital today from a broken pelvis after a crash, I'm thinking I should probably get some too.

Comfort is top priority so does anyone have experience of using the boxershort type armour and what would you recommend?

As loads of pies isn't the right answer, shorts with padding are probably best but I doubt they would stop a broken pelvis - that must have been a big impact and I wouldn't have thought a bit of foam would be sufficient.
But I could be wrong.

I was going to ask the same to protect a rebuilt shoulder, most armour is the dished shape that relies on close fitting to work, but could move on impact.

IMHO, armour built into jackets and trousers is useless for that very reason.
Since I've changed to pressure suit style armour, it feels far more secure and way more comfortable.
Not so sure about the loose armour held together with straps though. That must have to be very tight to stay put.

I bought some Knox Defender shorts at the NEC in December. Comfortable, secure. Pleased with them. Could do with a gap for when you need a pee. Quite a high waist equals lots of fiddling around to gain access!

Following a heavy fall some years ago l invested in a pair of GP-PRO protector shorts, plenty of foam padding over hips, thighs and rump ( l've actually removed some of the padding for comfort) they also have a fly opening!
Plenty of impact protection but wouldn't safeguard against a broken pelvis, not sure what would!!
