I'm looking for opinions please...
What do you all consider the best 2T for trail riding ?
I recently sold my 350 EXC-F and would like to replace it later in the year with a smoker...
My budget will be a modest one, so not interested in anything too modern.

Bikes worth thinking about are a MK 3 Honda crm 250 active radical is a good choice. Or Yamaha WR 250 may be a KTM 200 EGS with auto lube or possibly a Kawasaki kdx 200 or 220 all good bikes in there own ways.

The six speed ktm and berg 250 and 300 are modest budget for earlier ones. They are superb trailbikes and quieter than many 4t.
200 ktm with autocue is also a. Good choice, wish I never got rid of mine.

Crm is a good classic choice.

Gas gas are worth a look. Lot of happy owners.

As said KTM would be choice, autolube if possible.
If you're budgeting stay away from premium bikes such as the CRM because they have attained a cult status they fetch a premium,I've had one and without getting bleary-eyed IMHO I felt a bit let down by the hype and raised value.
WR250=WOW amazing but usually caned and needing work,I loved mine but thought it was a bit too old and the draw of the Orange was too great.
2 KTM 200 exc's trailed and enduroed, fabulous, light, flickable, easy maintenance and part supply(Leisure Trail),they need a crankweight to benefit from "roll on" if your an old 2/t hand. Also they retain their value to the extent that I got my original purchase price back both times...be quick if you buy one they don't stay advertised for long.
Of course there are plenty of others to choose from,if you are solely trailing then you have a plethora of choice.I have had many 2/t trailies and crossers, any opinions are my own based on my experiences with no intent to offend anyone. :D

I have a KTM 200 and after some modifications it is a great trail bike, a standard one is not that suitable though, not sure about a 300

The 300 is arguably easier to ride as they have way more torque than the 200's...and can be 'chugged' much more...
