I'll regret selling my DRZ. They just don't make anything like that anymore.

In the real world (not on paper) what's the difference between the 's' and 'e' model drz's ?
My 's' was really good on the road, but offroad, I found it on the heavy side, and lacking in oomph when it came to hoisting the front wheel in anything other than 1st gear.

I am also in a situation where I have to ride to the trails, which I can see being a right pain in the arse on my current bike - as good as it is.

More oomph, less weight intended for off road: suspension plastic tank, no passenger provisions

How is the KTM 350 on the road, how does it cope with a 20-30 mile ride to the trails?

It copes ok, not as comfortable as the DRZ. But to be fair I haven't used the KTM much, and I didn't have the Suzuki for long either.
The KTM is definitely wasted on me to be honest, I'm happy to plod around at my own pace - which I could do on near enough anything, if I keep to 55-60mph it's not too bad.
If I were to use the bike for work, which I often do during the summer months, that would mean an oil change every week, which is a pain in the arse, and expensive !
Don't get me wrong, the 350 is a wicked bike to ride, just not at all practical - and yes, I know it wasn't built to be !!

Indeed - I found the same with a KTM

Wanted to be off all the time at a fast pace, suspension too hard for rocky going

Gone back to an old air cooled trail bike, great on the road & just right for trail riding, not racing is it?

I'm gonna give the KTM a chance to grow on me for a while.
But I must admit to not relishing the amount of maintenance it will need
See how long I last :D

Why are they so cheap if they're this good ?

Because they are horrible, nasty, stinky things that make you ride like a sixteen-year-old, twat.

I "Hate 2-stokes"

and "Will never own a KTM"

(I have a 200 EXC   )

((To be honest, the 200 is a lot of fun sometimes but I can't recommend it as your only trail-bike. 4-strokes are just easier to ride))
