Hi can any one help.
Went out on bike yesterday and lost all my oil from sprocket shaft oil seal luckily i saw it in time AA got me home.
Put new seal in today and oring started her up oils pouring out again.
Does anybody no if i did this right when i put new seal in i pushed it in so it was flush with the shaft bearing or should the seal lie flat with the outside of the engine casing.
In my hast to remove old oil seat i cant remember whether seal was flush with bearing or casing thank you.

I believe there was a mod to fit a stainless steel sleeve the seal runs on, the original corrodes and damages the seal.
Hope this helps

Hi,

common problem, at least you caught it before all of the oil was lost.

An easy fix, as the previous poster said, a new bush normally sorts it (they are known to corrode an rip the seal up).

Less than 15 quid on e-bay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALL-BALLS-FRO ... 1e9bf963a4

The seal is pressed in and then a retaining plate keeps it in place.

Done both of our CCM 404's with this kit, no issues since.

Hope that helps.

You did refit the bush over the output shaft didn't you ?

Just a thought......

Thanks as for the upgrade bush i did this soon as i got the bike last year.
Am i right in thinking that the oil seal lies flat with the retaining plate rather than being pushed all the way in so it is flat against the shaft bearing thanks.

If the seal and O ring were installed correctly and are still leaking, then the output bearing has failed.

One cause of this can be running with the chain too tight.

Stephen,

Quite a bit of discussion about this problem on ThumperTalk, might be worth your tasking a look through the various articles on their website;http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/17-dr-z-400/

Please remember to let us know how you eventually cure the problem.

TTFN

Hugh.

Have you put the sprocket and nut one? Run it with out and the oil pressure is enough to push the bush out of the seal. Guess how I found that out[DIZZY FACE]
