Details of Voluntary Restriction anywhere?

Can anyone in Wilts help?

I'm in the process of planning a track around Salisbury Plain and The Droves for April. I have the ROW closures page but when I was out exploring the other week and I intersected the B road that crosses Ox Drove I noticed Voluntary TRO signs up. These are not listed.

I can't find details of VTRO's anywhere. Is it possible to find details beforehand without actually having to encounter them on the ground, to assist planning?

I think most of the VRs have been posted as an emergency measure because it's so wet at the moment.

By April hopefully the land will have dried a little.

Meanwhile, it's probably best to stay away if in doubt. Some of the puddles are quite deep enough to drown a bike and hydraulic the engine..and then you are stuffed.

Some of the fords are downright dangerous. But you could always call Wilts County Highways for advice.

As I said: I think the situation will have changed for the better come April and I wouldn't let the situation now put you off making plans for then.

As Richard said, by April you should be fine but just ask the question on here again for local up to date feedback.

Each year they put up voluntary TROs on those lanes. I tend to see what the local conditions are and either go around or continue on the route. Currently, as it is so wet, the issue is that those sections of the droves cut up and cause lasting damage.

There is a very deep puddle on the drove that if you see is best avoided though!

LOL, understatement of the day. I know it well. I think you'd be better off with a submarine through there currently. I have planned the track to avoid that bit :shock:

Thanks chaps, I think a recon mission beforehand is a neccessity then...

Not the Plain but fairly close, this was the ford on the Fosseway on Monday (03.02.14), first time in my life that I've turned back

Does anyone know what it's like on the Stonehenge byway with all the recent shenanigans?

I haven't done it for a while Andy but if I were you I'd just turn up and ride it. There is no TRO as far as I know?

The only problem on the Stonehenge byway will be

a) hundreds of parked cars
b) loads of tourists wandering around oblivious that this is actually a road
c) dozens of camper vans parked up for a cuppa
d) children running around unchecked
e) families having picnics in the centre of the highway

At least that's what it was like last time I was there :roll:
