Hey all - a palatable outcome I think on the Holly Hill Experimental TRO.

There will be a permit scheme introduced, but there wont be any silly restrictions on days or numbers of permits or times.

The order starts on 23 July 2012 but unfortunately the routes will be completely closed for 6 months to allow for restoration and maintenance work. So after 23 July it will be January 2013 when we can apply for the permits.

Well done everyone who objected and credit to Kent County Council for taking account of our objections and modifying the ETRO.

I've hosted the Kent County Council pack here - containing a response to objectors, the TRO details, permit scheme details, etc. Click the link, hit download.

I was over Holly Hill today, met policewoman in purple land rover, very friendly, she said it should be open soon, permits started out slow but they getting organised now, applied for mine yesterday, had a reply with the form to complete, emailed back, I will post when I get it.
Also there will be a heavy (ish) police presence there over easter hols

Road this lane on Sunday just gone, I have heard from source that there are motion camera's hidden in this byway. Anyone have any knowledge?

The reason behind my query is that myself and Ian rode past a rambler here on Sunday who thought it would be funny to lay two large logs across the byway. I saw him drop one of them and walk away just as I turned the corner. I then encountered a second log just past the bend of the byway. This one was heavy and Ian moved it. It would easily have taken a motorcyclist off.

Is it just me that encounters all this problems? I am beginning to think I am some kind of s**t magnet

Why always me?

I ride in kent 6-8 times a year for the last 4 years

I've encountered one grumble. That was from a landowner how had justified concerns about the bombhole 4x4's had created on his land.

Kent lanes are generally well managed as I understand. There are occasional issues but these are rare and isolated.

It'd be good to hear about the runs you have where you just go out and have a great day

Took a few friends down in August and guided them on a day across the North Downs. This was after Kent TRF kindly showed us the ropes earlier in the year.

Most people we met were friendly, although we did get some looks of "what are bikes doing here" on the permit section of Pilgrims way (we do have permits) although this was mostly from elderly people, but hey I even get looks from OAP's when I'm out with my daughter in a pushchair...they seem to hate everyone.

A group of women running on one byway looked very pleased to see a group of men on bikes, should have stopped really ;)

We also had one woman who told us we should not be riding one lane until I explained it was open to all traffic and showed her the map. After that she was quite friendly.

It's a good day out is Kent.
