Greetings folks,

I have come across the following links which relate to the proposed changes to MOT testing and the modification of vehicles from their original standard construction, OE. Although basically only proposals at this point (?) they would have major consequences for us if they pass through to legislation in this country.

The proposals are supposed to be safety related, which upon face value we can not really argue with, but the devil is as always in the detail.

To cut to the chase, MAG and other motorcycle and vehicle clubs are concerned that amongst other things many motorcycles will be forced off the road or be subject to very expensive rebuilds to return the vehicle to its original manufactured state. To oppose the proposals it has been suggested that folk contact the bureaucrats and by slowing their systems down thereby record our rejection of the proposals. If you wish to take part then first of all have a read of the two following articles and if you agree then please follow the directions in bold print below, which were passed on to me through the Norton Owners Club.

"MAG Activists
For those of you who are following Jon Strong’s complaint against the EC’s actions in drafting the Type Approval and Roadworthiness Tests now is the time to request and download the latest and final submission Jon has made. In this submission Jon believes he has demonstrated that the cost basis used in the Impact Assessment severely underestimates the costs of the proposed Roadworthiness Testing regime. It would help if you could download the documents as this keeps the level of interest in the case in the eye of those in power. So far interest in the case has resulted in the European Ombudsman’s office having to change their approach to publishing case documents and create a web based process to meet their requirement to make case documents available on request – part of Transparent Government.

For those of you who do not already have a link sent from the European Ombudsman’s office

To download the latest case. Please go to the European Ombudsman’s site <>
Select the Cases tab on the blue tab bar
Enter case 0875 and select 2011 from the year drop down box to the right

Select the link to the case documents. You will be asked for information such as your email address. The ombudsman’s office will respond with a link and details of how to access the case file which is available to the public. It can take up to 6 weeks for the Ombudsman’s office to respond with details of the link you will need.

Once again – please do not attempt to print the main documents as one contains 200 pages of blank spreadsheet entries where Jon found the EC was missing data".

Thank you.

This is for information only, I am not an expert in these matters, and I am not starting any form of sub group to take action.
