Ok. - I am a wimp and I could really do with some training to ride ruts, go up steps and improve my overall confidence.
I do get embarrassed that I prefer to be tail end Charlie so I can go at my own pace but everyone then has to wait for me.

Even after nearly. 4 years, I'm still a nervous rider and won't push myself.
Maybe it's self preservation from starting too late in life and being self employed.

With other aspects to my life, not least a VERY undertstanding and tolerant wife, just upping sticks and disappearing for a weekend to do a riding course isn't so easy.

Saying that has got me worried as she pushed me into going on my Royal Enfield trip to India in October - what is her ulterior motive?

Different discipline but the great cyclist fasto coppi was once asked how he got so good. He beckoned the reporter close and replied, ride your bike, ride your bike, ride you bike.
It really is that simple, to get good/better at anything practice is the key. Just get out there and ride those ruts, tackle those rocky climbs. The more you do it the better you will get!!

From what I know these are people that do trail riding or would be good to work with as trainers etc, as they are all good industry contacts, good people, and committed to bringing people on in motorcycling generaly :

Si Pavey and the team at BMW of road skills
Troy Corser and all at Wheeldon Off Road
Ady Smith, my first experience to the muddy stuff was with him too
Steve Ireland at WOR, was setting up some trail riding, prior to the Husqvarna changes, and is succesful in creating and promoting events
Dave Thorpe, as well as managing his racing team is also into training these days.

I'm sure that there are more....

Why do you need high end big names?

If you follow the IAM, its all done on local volunteers helping individuals to get them up to a standard. Of course this will not be good for some as will not have the desired look who is helping the TRF, but it might be better for actually helping skill for trail riding.

Not the IAM these days

£149 signup & £10 ride fees

In addition to that all the classes you want at £50- £100 a pop

(Mario IAM & RoSPA member)

I'd be cautious about some of the big names.

They have an interest in commercialising trail riding...come trail riding at our pay and ride trail park...oh and you have to undergo our (expensive) training so we can be sure that you are safe. Careful examination of the relationship between the BMW Riding School and their landlords Walters Mining might be informative...I understand that WM wants Sarn closed to trail riders...why do you think that might be?

I know Wheeldon Farm has a different attitude...they have at least one green lane going through their farm that they are not allowed to use themselves, but anyone else can!

Okay in the IAM method of things.

A newbie gets an observor who comments on their riding and hopefully the newbie improves. No need for money to change hand.

Just ignore IAM and jst get somebody to go out with a newbie. I will help on this.

A Herts TRF member Nick Gorringe has recently stepped up to manage the relationship with Globetrotters - Julia & Kevin I think?

Looks like he has already put the TRF on their agenda from your comments
