Not sure if Freestyle Husky in Sussex loan bikes. JP1 is well involved with them. It's the loan bike that is crucial IMHO as there was no way I was going to buy a bike and all the gear and then realise I hated it.

Many new members who join the Devon group have often done so after a day at Wheeldon farm who are great advocates for the TRF. Wheeldon Farm has also been the base for Devons "Teign To Tamar" trail weekend over the past few years (year off this year with an Axe To Exe weekend instead) which has been a great fund raiser for Devons RoW work. Maybe a trade association page where details of such companies (with members reviews) would be a good idea. I'd propose a thread on here to start with where postings have to be approved and are then locked, can you do that....................... after the log in issue please Is it possible to have moderators for indidual topics or threads? This would provide consistency in such topics and remove the burden from others.

http://www.trailrides-wales.com/ Colin and Marianne Walford. Marianne is ROW officer for Mid Wales TRF. and always helpful. They promote responsible trail riding can supply bikes, kit and training.

Perfect and this is exactly what I am after Riding with the TRF is training on the job and how I learnt myself but I am interested to hear from regular riders who went on a training course and got benefit out of it

It's worked the other way as well, some of these less scrupulous "training" companies have made contact with groups, riden with them untill they had logged most of the runs, then you never see them again once they know the runs and can make money out of it charging punters. I would immagine there are more good than bad companies, but it can happen. 2 yams

Ok. - I am a wimp and I could really do with some training to ride ruts, go up steps and improve my overall confidence. I do get embarrassed that I prefer to be tail end Charlie so I can go at my own pace but everyone then has to wait for me. Even after nearly. 4 years, I'm still a nervous rider and won't push myself. Maybe it's self preservation from starting too late in life and being self employed. With other aspects to my life, not least a VERY undertstanding and tolerant wife, just upping sticks and disappearing for a weekend to do a riding course isn't so easy. Saying that has got me worried as she pushed me into going on my Royal Enfield trip to India in October - what is her ulterior motive?

I'd recommend http://www.trailandoffroad.co.uk/. Martin does basic training/custom training as well as guided byway tours on salisbury plain using either your own bike or he has Kawasaki klx's for those without. I've been a couple of times and keep going back. He is great if you have a friend who is interested as you can ride yours and they can ride one of Martins bikes.

I went on a training day a couple of years ago with i2i training in North Yorkshire it was organised by one of the Manchester members It was a great day and they tailored the day towards skills needed on trails rather than racing

Freestyle in Mark Cross are currently working with the TRF, organising monthly trail rides which are led by a TRF member, the cost i think is £15 of which i believe most goes to the TRF fighting fund and the remainder towards a bacon sandwich. Freestyle Details http://www.freestylebikes.co.uk/ Contact: Steve Alyard They offer offroad basics, enduro and trials training where you can use your own bikes or hire there's. I believe they also hire out bikes for the monthly trail rides for a fee.
