Here is my YZ125E Hill climb bike. The rolling chassis didn't sell on eBay even when listed at £0.99 so I decided to turn it into a ' special '.

The YZ is shown here with 18" road wheels for hill climbing:

And here it has the road legal trail tyres fitted :

It would probably make a nice trail bike as it has a DT175MX engine fitted at the moment, and weighs about 200lb when the tank is full of pre-mix. The YZ is fitted with an IT175E exhaust and tail pipe to keep the noise to an acceptable level, ie. pretty quiet !!

Still quite a few jobs to do and time is running out before the Hill climbing season starts.

Nice "unusual" bike mate.

What are the USD forks off?

Agree that with lights that would make a very tidy traily.

Cheers

Any chance you could write a 'how to go hill-climbing' article for 'TRAIL'?

Better still, If you would like to write an article, I will put it on the website.

That would be interesting, and different.

Regards

SB

PS Can I put the bike pictures in the gallery?

The USD forks are off a Honda CR85. I didn't want anything too long or big in dia. I have used these forks before on my Honda SL230 so I knew a little about how they worked and how to limit the travel to stop the front wheel hitting the underside of the mudguard when using a 21" front wheel. Oh and I did have a spare set in my loft as well !!!

I used a Honda CR80 28 spoke front hubs laced to custom made front rims, again these are shared with my Honda SL230. If I had my time again I would probably have used a different front wheel set-up, as I have doubts about the durability of a 28 spoke front wheel !!!

A modified Honda CR250 rear wheel graces the back end, again shared with the SL230. Mix and match !!! Sachs XTC125 caliper and mount do the stopping bit !! The sachs caliper mount is flat steel rather than cast alloy like the Honda CR250, so is easy to adapt to the unmodified YZ125 swinging arm.

Will keep you informed of my progress.

M

I had an aircooled YZ125 MX bike, I think it was a 1979, handled lovely, but was very loud and had a narrow power band, I'm surprised you could fit a DT engine in there, as the YZ bottom end was tiny and the chain was on the right.
