Hi all you adventure motorcyclists i am planning a journey to Dakar leaving mid June 2010 getting back mid july anyone interested, previous touring experience a must as is a sense of adventure/humour/ability to survive outside an enviroment that has no hotels/running water/sanitation/takeaways.

yep cornwall counts remote,no takeaways and the natives speak in a foreign tongue plus its 300 miles closer to dakar than me

Thanks. I'd love to come but I know I'm not available at that time. But Dakar and back in four weeks in mid-summer - won't it be a bit hot and a bit of a rush?

The route is now tarmac all the way, i did a similar trip to Tamanrasset a number of years ago on an xj650, with 2 days of the route off road and managed their and back in 3 weeks.i will admit not be much time for site seeing but its the journey thats the adventure not an endless catalogue of souks and monuments

i would love to go i jave got a cagiva elephant 750 have you got a route planned yet i will have to see a bit closer to the date but sounds brill i have toured to germany but if the bikes going are sports bikes i have also got a cbr 600 so a little more info if you have it please

Well i will be astride my trusty tiger 955 and its a single tarmac road once out of western sahara through mauritania to the border with Senegal,i am planning for minimal petrol on at least 2 stretches which means the bike needs a range of about 450km.I am carrying 2 5 litre gerry cans which in conjunction with my tank will give the required range.Things to think about
Pasport needs at least 6 months left to run
Vaccinations
Visas
apart from that what a gig :D

Don't forget your sun cream and a bucket and spade (there's a lot of sand). Can you bring me back a stick of rock with 'Dakar' through the middle? :D

i can bring back a stick or a rock a stick would be less trouble and easier to write dakar on

That's a trip I'd like to do one day, unfortunatly not in the foreseeable future :cry:
