Anyone entering the Bristol TRF Fun Trial ?

I'll be riding ( sliding ) my 1977 IT175D.

Well 85 of you managed to look at the topic, but I guess you lived too far away or were too busy to take part or show an interest !

Never mind, you missed a great day.

I chose to ride my almost original ( in other words unrestored ) IT175D for no other reason that it was the only IT that works at the moment !
My Brother, Pete came along on his Yamaha TTR600.

Well, it was supposed to be a fun event, but we were the only riders who truly entered into the spirit of the occasion. I had the smallest and oldest bike, and Pete had the biggest and heaviest bike ! Everyone else rode the latest KTM's, CRF's, Betas, Husabergs etc.

Needless to say, we had a laugh up until the point when my Brother went over the handlebars of the TTR. Luckily he has given up on the idea of fathering any more children !
I carried on and did a couple more laps and Pete managed to get a couple of video clips of me on the IT175D :

I relearned a couple of lessons during the day.

1: Two strokes can oil plugs if you ride slowly.
2: It's a good idea to make sure your plug spanner actually fits the plug before starting an event !

We have no idea how well we did on the event, but to be honest we don't really care. We just want to get onto the next ride !

My ( our ) thanks to the organisers for putting on such a great event.

Great looking bike Dave, do you trail ride it as well? Would liked to have brought one of the XR's along but work got in the way.

What format did the event take? I'm considering adding it to the event directory.

Cheers, Rob

Rob, this was my first ride off road for four Years, and the first time I had ridden a two stroke for 31 Years !

I've not trail ridden the IT yet. I think I would need to do some work on the noise output and improve the fuel capacity first.

The fun trial format was along the lines of an easy observed trial, with a special test thown into the mix. Most people had some minor difficulties with some of the sections, so I think the balance between enjoyment and skill was just right.

I was a bit surprised at the bikes that were entered. Most were newish and KTM, Husaberg, CRF, Beta, etc. I had been thinking that people would drag something interesting from the backs of their garages, and chug them round for fun ! I would have thought that someone on an XR200, XL185, DT175MX would have walked away with the win.

Overall a great day,and I would like to publicly thank the organisers for running the event. Also my thanks to all the people who made us outsiders feel so welcome.

Got to go. Am at work using mobile broadband. The factory manager is on patrol, dragging his knuckles along the ground for some reason !

That's my Brother, Pete on the TTR600. He was riding the biggest and tallest bike at what was really an easy observed trial. Difficult on a TTR600 though !

More to come.
