Hi

Looking to sell my Dorsoduro 750 and get meself an enduro sort of bike for some green laning.

2 things, Im a fair size lad @ 6ft and 210lbs, so am thinking of something with a bit of power.

I was looking at a honda crf450x....however the service/maintenance schedule has put me off.

In the past I owned a DRZ400E and wife now has a drz400sm.

I was wondering whether to go for a drz again but it sorta lacked the power i was after, perhaps if I jetted it etc.

Alternatively if anyone can recommend a good bike that is not maintenance heavy, that is fairly light (Gonna be picking it up lots :), (was hoping to get a bike around the 250lbs mark) and that will hold up to a few small jumps etc please let me know.

Im thinking 4 strokes are the way forward to me. KTM or even the Husky 610 (not looked into these yet tho)

It'll probably be 60%-70% road and 30% off road if im honest.....

DRZ if you want low maintenance alternatively go for anything else.

It will be hard to reccomend a low(ish) maintainance bike when you've already discounted the DRZ so how about a DRZ400 with a big bore kit? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360378036160

RMX 450 has tons of power (and if Suzuki play their cards right over the next couple of years with some minor alterations will have a very competitive enduro racer).

Very light as well. But they are in my opinion very noisy from stock. I have heard of riders putting on after markets just to quiet them down.

Maintenance wise as long as you change the oil every 500 miles or so and air filter the same not a great deal of difference to the DRZ.

Or from what I've been reading the new KTM 350 is unbelieveable. Maybe give that a go but not a cheap option at the moment.

The Honda is very well built. The gearing is a little short legged on the road compared to a KTM.

A big lad in our group got a Husky 610 as his first bike. It was fine for Summer when trails are easy but waaaay too much in the winter. He's now got a 250.

Cheers, just after some pointers on diff bikes suitable for the job at moment.
Prob have up to £5K to spend. Just want something with some power and not-silly service schedules.... I'll have a look at the ktm range.

I have not wrote the drz off yet, a jet and exhaust kit may be the way forward for me - I sorta fancy a kicker and no battery, but not sure a. How easy kickstarting is and b. Im guessing it would just have a daytime mot, as no lights?

Ktm 525 or 530. Enough power for most people and the 525 will handle the road. Keep an eye out for a clean one on ebay as they do come along.

Bearing in mind your requirements -

"60-70% road" and "low maintenance".

I would reccomend a KTM 690.

Maintenance = 7500km service intervals, Valve clearances every 15000km.

120 - 130 miles on 9.5litres fuel. Tank is 12l - runs out at 163miles :oops:

150kg wet+fully fuelled.

4 year warranty - very good too. At 18000 miles KTM replaces front and rear wheel bearings on mine under warranty.

Very dirt capable. Will go everywhere a DRZ will.

Very good on the tarmac.

You asked if it could handle some small jumps?
