I would like to give long distance trials a bash on my 91 Serow. I understand I need road legal trials tyres. I'm told almost everyone uses MT43s. Has anyone tried Trelleborg ET-01s? Better still, has anyone tried both tyres? What are the characteristics? I'm keen to try the ET-01s as I've been really pleased with Trelleborg Army Specials, they're also cheaper. I look forward to your replies.

do you mean the mitas ET-01 ?

if so it is a soft compound radial trials tyre similar to the michelin X11.

the mitas is ok on lighter bikes with lighter riders and tends to be a bit "squirelly" on tarmac with any speed but the grip on the rocks etc is far better.the mt 43 is a good compromise with far better road manners and much longer life.

hope this helps

Roger

Hi,
It doesn't call them "Mitas" on the Trellesport website, but I guess they're the ones (normal trials pattern). Sounds like MT43s might be more user friendly in terms of using them around town, for commuting & for long distance trials. If anyone else can give opinions I'd be really greatful

Oh yes, if I can just find a cheap drum rear wheel I'd have 3 complete sets of wheels & could then have a set with knobblies, one with ET-01s & one with anything that I could do road stuff. That would be a perfect set up!

Most long distance trials specify the traditional trials tread pattern and many quote the MT43 as an example. You will probably find that the MT43 is better on all but deep mud any way.

I wimped & bought MT43s in the end as they'll last longer & cost me less in the long run. Still waiting for a front security bolt to arrive so that both are fitted to my spare set of wheels & I can try them out
