Greetings,

Unlikely to be broken plates but they could have buckled causing the paste to fall off and short across the cells, either way it is a deceased parrot :? Check the rate at which your charger operates, is it an old type car charger or a modern one? Modern batteries require the new 'computerised' chargers such as the Optimate5 or even newer model.

TTFN

Hi Dick gel batteries do tend to die instantly from experience mine went from restarting ok on trail to dead next press of starter, you only know when you hit start as CRF 230 will run of it alternator once running.
sounds like something making and breaking inside battery either way bin it. If you measure 13.3 with a meter what happens if you put a load on it, you can use a 12v halogen headlamp bulb to test it.

I found that batteries on a constant trickle charger, don't last as long.
They don't like it up em !

The battery on my 950 lasted 7 years on an Optimate every winter. No point in the riding season as it's being used regularly.
If it's a proper Battery Conditioner, they seem to last for much longer IMHO.

Even though I only ride every few weeks, I've only had to charge the 400 battery when I've accidentally flattened it.

Once had a dealer send a diagnostic computer back saying it had a flat battery, I am then angrily unpacking it think why did they not just recharge it?
When unpacked the machine that had been six inches in depth was now two inches thick with two truck tyre prints on the ally casing.
They were correct the battery was flat and everything else around it
