Post subject:  XL250S front wheel swap

Now Christmas is out of the way my thoughts have turned to finally getting my XL250s back on the road/byway. if you know this bike you will be aware that it had a 23 inch front wheel but there are a few about with 21 inch fronts.
Has anyone swapped a Xl125 front wheel for the 23 inch beast. Reason I ask is I have a spare XL125 wheel sitting there doing nothing which fits on the spindle no problem but before I take my XL125RC apart just to try it (I don't have a spare brake panel/brake shoe carrier to try with the spare wheel) I wondered if anyone had done this?

Has anyone switched in a XL250RC front wheel or is it a case of spoking up a 21 inch rim?

I'm fairly sure the brake panel will not fit as the forks have different lugs on them.
Is your 23" wheel twin leading shoe brakes or the 160mm single leading type?
I'd re-rim the hub personally or try and source a complete disc brake front end.

I sent my 23" xl250s wheel to Central Wheels in Brum. They laced a new 21" rim with standard spokes (not posh ones) to the hub. It wasn't that expensive and they did a great job.

cheers

Cheers for the replies. Getting a 21 rim seems the way to go.

Not sure about the front wheel from the XL250RC. Try comparing part numbers

I didn't like the 23" front tyre as the only one that I could buy was OEM.
So I bought a 21" rim from a friend & had it relaced by Hagons & with a Michelin T61
tyre it worked perfectly
