I volunteered to help out at the Aske horse show - near Richmond - North Yorks - held in the grounds of Aske Hall (a bit like Downton Abbey).
I had never done it before, but was up for something new, so had no preconceptions of what to expect.
It was a 2 day event, I was on the sunday, with Steve, another TRF member.
TBH, I quite enjoyed it, not a challenge, but a pleasant change to long rides.
We basically rode the same route several times collecting score cards from parked cars at regular locations around a cross country horse event.
Not rushed during the day - proably 15 mins ride followed by 15 mins break - nice long lunch break.
The organisers seemed to appreciate us helping out.
The horsey lot were all very friendly - once they knew why we were there.
The horses seem to be well used to motorbikes (we just kept a safe distance) & I never saw a spooked animal.
Free food & refreshments during the day.
The fine weather certainly made it pleasant - would be different in the rain.
Its 99% on grass, so tyres dont get worn.
The TRF club gets paid a fee for helping out.

To round up - better suited to the likes of TTR`s & DRZ`s, but KTM`s are still OK.
A good day - propper chilled out - dont be apprehensive about having a go next time.

Sounds like you had a good time.
My only concern would be picking up a puncture from a thrown horse shoe, did that not worry you
