Any TRF members own a new CCM GP450 Adventure? Wondering how you find the bike for on/off road!

They haven't actually built any for sale yet, but if you look on the ABR forum there's a few people who have ordered them and had demo bikes on trial.

By all accounts its an excellent bike, but I personally wouldn't order one until actual series production has started.

I believe the first customer bikes are now due in August 2014.

From what I hear/read, it's excellent, but faces the problem that people still expect to buy a bike on a price per CC and it's a 450 for 650 money. There are also worries about engine durability, but only time will tell as to whether these are well-founded.

But if you do the maths and look at putting that level of bodywork and kit on a 450, then it's a good buy, assuming they can sort whatever issue is delaying/preventing it going into production.

I was chatting to Austin Clews a few weeks back and they are still awaiting European Homologation to be completed before production starts.

Last week there were three GP450s entered in the Trail Bike class in the Ryedale Rally (Austin himself rode one of them) two of them passed me at one point on the liaison and I can confirm they certainly don't lack speed! Although I suspect they were running the aftermarket 50 bhp "power plug".

Still pre-production bikes though with the black plastics and still with "BMW" cast into the engine cases ;)

Final result
1 Haigh, Steve - CCM Adventure 450
2 Clotworthy, Kieran - Honda CRM 250
3 Bentham, Robert - CCM Adventure 450
4 Loupart, Rob - CCM 404 Dualsport
5 Clews, Austin - CCM Adventure 450

Had to laugh though when my mate Rob managed to be in second place after Saturday, splitting the two lead GP450s on his 10 year old CCM 404! And a final fourth place is pretty good going on what is a rather "well worn" 404

I had the BMW G450X which has the BMW designed Taiwanese made engine. This engine is in the CCM.

Despite regular maintenance and mostly using the bike for trail riding it decided to drop a valve into the piston. As well as new valves and piston I had to replace the head as this lump does not have replaceable valve guides. Even doing the rebuild myself I still spent over £500 on parts.

The engine always felt a little fragile to me. That said I know a few others who have plenty of miles on the G450 and the same engine was used in the Husky TE449/511 and they seem to be reliable bikes. So maybe I was unluckily.

I do wish CCM well with this though however personally if I wanted a mini adventure bike it would have to be a KTM 690 Enduro with a fairing kit!

I have test ridden this CCM on both surfaced and unsurfaced roads around Amesbury in Wiltshire, it was a competant bike in both enviroments.
As to value for money ,its competitive beside a KTM.

As for reliability ,time will tell, but top quality components are used ,

You pay your money , you take your choice.

Don't forget that Si Pavey completed a Dakar on that engine. Can't imagine a non raced bike on the low power set up will be an issue at all.

Love the gp450 looks like a fantastic trail bike, not enduro! Will be good on road as well, some guy on advriders forum has just picked his up and has a YouTube vid.
