Have had a minor dispute on the forum of my local TRF group which has led to me being banned from said forum. I feel that I have been unfairly treated, and also have the support of several other forum and TRF members, who have now said that they will not be prepared to renew their membership, due to the actions of the TRF groups chairman and committee.
Would like to now how best to go about making a formal complaint with regards to this situation as I feel it only serves to create bad publicity for the TRF.
I am at present not a TRF member, but was seriously considering joining prior to this incident, however, I am still intending to join the National TRF but would not join my local group due to the way things are being currently run.

Thank you in advance for any advice given.

TBH, I wouldn't let it worry me.

There's more to life (and the TRF) than forums, which seem to bring out the worst in people: either very aggressive and self-righteous or very sanctimonious and self-righteous. Certainly there are keyboard warriors who type things they would never dream of saying to someone in person.

(Forums can becomea bit like those mass rideouts of road bikes that you see. Either a pack of nutters on sportsbikes carving one another up, or a group of weekend outlaws on production customs going everywhere at 45 mph following the 'road captain').

I long ago gave up trying to chronicle my activities on the various forums I use. They would be better if people just used them as a means of ask for and getting advice, organising activities and disseminating important information. For many people their main activity (whether it be trail riding, rock climbing or walking the dog) has become a subsidiary to what is now their main hobby...posting pictures/video of themselves on line.

Indeed some people appear to become their 'on line' persona to the exclusion of all else, then find out too late that everyone involved in their real life has given up on waiting for them to finish on the computer and moved on with their lives. A bit sad really, I think.

This forum is a good one, as are the TBM one, ADVrider and Adventure Bike Rider. But some of the others are just like a competition to see who can write the most rude words before they get told off by teacher.

I'm off to give the dog his supper!

If you want to join the TRF then join the TRf for what the TRf has to offer, don't join it for the forum. There is nothing to stop you being a member and if you don't get on with your local group then go along to another.

First I should point out I know leon personally and of the forum he speaks of .

As a full trf member I had been a member of this forum but quite frankly i became very disappointed in the attitude of many of the committee members notably the chairmen who seems to have taken it upon himself as judge and jury and i have since left.

Yes that's him to a tee , met him have you.

but there is a big difference this forum is part of a recognized organization promoting legal trail riding, egos should be left at the door not paraded in front of everyone .i cannot understand why he would move a legal trail ride report and yet leave illegal activity in plain view.go figure.

lets hope he will reply to these comments on here as he seems to be hiding on HIS forum.

simple answer Leon, sign up to the TRF then proceed to use this forum in the allocated area/section that you have chosen :)

Forums can be a pain but mostly they are a good tool to have in organising things such as ride outs etc...

Leon,

I'm sad to hear about your experience with the group and the other forum, but this not something that should be taken any further on this forum. We do not know what the other forum was or what the circumstances were, and indeed discussing it any further could take us into defamation territory.

Regarding your experience with your local chairman, I suggest that you should drop a line to Polly the secretary (secretary@trf.org.uk) as she may be able to recommend who to contact. Please bear in mind that the actions of your local group are precisely that and it is sad to hear about people potentially dropping out of the TRF altogether as a result of their local group. Hopefully there is another nearby local group that you can still meet up with.

What is there to gain by having "local" trf forums? apart from not having to be a full TRF member to access the regional sections on here????

Are these local trf forums or websites still part of the trf?

These websites and forums exist for a number of reasons. Some existed before the TRF website and forum were set up, others are the result of close-knit groups who just want to keep themselves to themselves and have more control over who has access to ride planning etc.

Those sites and forums are only related to the local groups and are not connected to the National TRF.

Hi womble

What would be helpfull would be links to the local groups web-sites that are hosted elsewhere

However by having groups within the main group wishing to stay somewhat hidden misses the entire point of what the trf stands for. i.e a united front against the antis as well as encouraging new members and the bonus of helping out visitors from other counties.

on several occasions ive requested admision to satelite sites and recived sod all back and im a paid up member !

a club within a club spells nothing but trouble imho and i should know having worked at golf clubs for 20 years
