Could someone confirm that I will be able to ride Stanage (Sat 2nd March) and if there are any restrictions as to which direction to go etc. Never been up there on a trail bike before. Any advice gladly received.

Yes, Stanage is open but has a width restriction on it for repairs, so it's closed to 4 wheeled vehicles. Barriers have been erected at each end to enforce the width limit.

it is certainly easier to ride down from the Sheffield end. The very rocky section has got progressively more pronounced as the heavy rain has washed away most of the soil and smaller rocks from around the larger chunks. It's pretty easy to get a wheel caught when going uphill. There is a pretty good line down the left hand side going down. Just be careful not to get bounced over the edge!

You are free to ride either way, just depends on how much of a challenge you like.

And a voluntary direction, which is down it.

I have seen no documentation to suggest that there is a voluntary direction to take, other than peoples say so on forums such as this.

Please point me at it if I am mistaken.

Roych Clough is signposted accordingly. Without signage, how is anyone arriving at the head of the lane supposed to know? There's full documentation about the width restriction at either end. I would expect any other relevant documentation to appear here too.

Up is much more fun, and not as tough as it looks.

Try third post down on this forum link:

I am not aware of the downhill voluntary restraint (actually a code of conduct) being rescinded.

I asked the very same question some time ago and got directed to this.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for that.

So it's not new, but from 2005. I thought it was part of the current width restrictions, not something in place for some time.

I can understand the reasoning, as 6 bikes getting stuck and struggling to get up would be a PITA for other users, revving engines, wheelspinning etc etc.

As I didn't know, and rode up on my own, and didn't get stuck, am I excused??

If its any consulation I had to be pointed into the direction of this posting as we'll.

I due all my due diligence before leading/riding by scrutinising at least two normally three sources of information.

In doing so I did not come across this! Neither do I know if it still stands.

Regards
