Hi all,

I'm planning on replacing my standard sump guard on my wr 450.

I was gonna put the aluminium version on but have seen acerbis make there own from polyurethane and claim it makes the bike run cooler and quieter.

Does anyone have any experience of these? Am i better off goin with this or the ali one?

Thanks in advance. H

Hi H,

I don't have the WR so can't comment on the benefits for temp/noise but as for Ali/'plastic' here's my experience:
I replaced the standard plastic/ABS sump guard with an ali one thinking it would be stronger. I then hit a rock on a ride out which caught the ali sump guard on one of the angular seams. This ripped the guard off and I promptly ran over, it looked like a piece of screwed up paper. In the glorious light of hindsight, I believe the plastic one, with its smoother plofile, would have faired much better. Needless to say I have now refitted the original and it has been fine despite some fair wacks and bangs. I have no doubt people have had the opposite experience but you asked for opinions and this is mine ;)

Well my old wr had an ali guard on there and seemed ok. The thing is acerbis have been making plastics and parts for enduros years now so surely it's worth fitting, besides if it takes some hammer it won't misshape like the Ali one will.

Thanks for your info anyway lads, it's made my decision.

plastic is softer than ali so surely the plastic one will wear out far quicker
