Standard Ordnance Survey leisure maps are what you want.
There are two types commonly available in the local bookshop/W H Smiths etc.
The Landranger series have a pink cover and a scale of 1:50,000.
The Explorer series have an orange cover and a scale of 1:25,000.
Both should show the same rights of way info but the Landrangers smaller scale means each map will cover more ground. On the other hand the Explorers larger scale shows considerably more detail.
I prefer the Explorer because the additional detail can make the difference between finding and staying on a route as opposed to floundering around in circles trying to work out which track on the ground is actually the one shown on the map or which side of the wall/fence/stream you should be on etc.
Mind you, you have carry more of them if your out for a longish ride which can be a pain.
Don't forget that there are several good on line OS map sites that are worth a look. I like XMarks the spot. Here's an example,
http://www.bdcc.co.uk/XMarksTheSpot.htm ... 8273877430Obviously you can't take that out with you on the bike but It can give you an idea of whats in an area before you buy a paper map at £7.99 or whatever only to find that there aren't any legal routes in the area etc.
Hope that sort of helps?
Cheers
