Tread-shedding is usually caused by sustained high speed combined with under or over inflation (or a knackered mousse). Or giving it too much throttle on sharp rocks. The on/off-road tyres we use will always be a compromise, and the compromise sometimes presents in a dramatic manner. |

I ride with Somerset TRF and plenty of us use MT43s, or the much softer Maxxis TrialMaxx. Losing knobbles isn't generally an issue. |

If it's only little bits of rubber as opposed to entire individual lumps of tread, then that's normal. The tread compound on those tyres is soft, and unsupported. Sharp bits of road grit cut into the tread blocks, and then the 'flex' in the rubber sees the cuts turn into tears and off they come. I wouldn't go over about 55 - 60 mph on a trials tyre...and not over 50 if it was a 'super sticky'. |

Hi Rossi Sorry for the late response, I had the same problem with a brand MT43, small 'D' shaped lumps were coming out of the trailing edge of all the centre blocks. I'd only ridden it 50 miles at less then 50 mph so not sure what happened. Any how I stuck with it and it hasn't got any worse over the last 1000 miles. |
