Post subject:  Which Insurance Company?

Hi Everyone,

Just bought my first trail bike, CRF250L, 2014 with 2400miles. I’ve had road bikes, mainly tourers most of my life. The CRF I’ve only bought to see if I enjoy trail / green lane riding, I don’t plan to use it as a road bike. With this in mind are there any insurance companies you could recommend to get a quote from?

Thanks for any advice.

John

You will be using it on a road, it should not make difference

I believe Bennetts tried to exclude trail riding a few years ago, but thought that did not last long.

Welcome updates too.

My might is listed with my other bikes

No ones recommendations are remotely relevant to your personal details.

So they would all be a waste of time. Trust me on this. Postcode, age, experience, claims, etc etc blah blah all make a difference.
A company that was competitive 2 or 6 months ago may be miles away today.

Go on go compare or similar. Or you'll be ringing round 100 recommendations and still be none the wiser.

Not to mention these threads run for ages with everyone voicing a different opinion and it's been covered a dozen or more times and might be found by using the search tools.

Ditto what Smokin said but with 1 addition.

When you get your quote look out for the exclusions - many companies specifically exclude trail riding/green laning or use loose terms such as 'off road' in their exclusions.

If this is the case, I would recommend getting them to define specifically what they mean by that exclusion and put it in writing.

My experience of Bennetts was that they didn't know what a GasGas or a CCM was.

Their website sent me a message to call them...I went through the usual call centre crap only to be told they couldn't help me and Carole Nash was better for my requirements.

They then bombarded me with a load of spam emails, reminding me to call them for a quote because my insurance was running out.

On a scale of one to 10 ... zero would be generous.

My main bike is through the RAC but insured with Aviva and they added the CRF for an additional £100 !

do not mention "off road" to any insurance company, you are going to ride on legal rights of way that are "roads" its just some are covered in grass.

Any "off road" use such as practice days wouldn't cover you anyway as these require separate specialist cover
