Hi, I am new to the TRF and on the verge of buying my first bike, a Husky from the guy who services my Ducati who is a reliable source. Anyone got any experience of this bike? Any advice on known issues and things to look for? Admittedly it's a bit of a cheap hack but just need something to get started on so seems like a good deal for £1200. Any help or advice appreciated |

It has smaller valve stems which were updated the following year as they stretch. People often fit steel valves as a replacement, they work but aren't what the engine was designed to use. Other issues are the starter gear, and it's obvious lack of a kick, another thing they changed a year later. Clutch mastercylinder fails as people use brake fluid instead of mineral oil, All in all a good bike but it's old 14 years old! and might soon become a money pit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd consider a Yam TTR250...it's probably the last affordable proper Japanese trail bike without the encumbrances of water cooling and all that. DR350Ss, XR250s and 400s are all fetching big money now, as people realise the virtues of the old-school bikes. The Yamaha 250 will surely follow, so it's the kind of bike you can buy, try, and sell on without loss if you either decide that trail riding isn't for you, or you want something more modern as the 'next step'. Alternatively AJPs, which use old-school engines in modern European chassis, are good if you can find one that hasn't been 'teenagered to death'. |

Good decision not buying that husky. If I remember rightly you cannot buy parts for those old huskys anymore from husky sport as they have been discontinued. Those early huskys had to many issues |
