I was looking at getting a new number plate for my bike i have just bought, as the one fitted is tiny and i dont really want to attract unwanted attention. I was going to get a flexi plate but size do the majority of people go for as i appreciate the legal size for bikes is not really practical on a off road bike apart from looking ridiculous thanks |

I've always had a legal, ordinary plate on my bikes and have only broken one once...since 1993! I've been stopped by the police a couple of times, and on each occasion they've looked at the number plate and said: "that's good enough for me, have a good day!" No other checks made

The CRF250 never breaks plates but the smaller lighter bikes CRF 250x & CRF230 chew through them , mainly from rear wheel travel. On the CRF250L (mid picture below) or a BMW GS a full size font on a 7x5 flexi looks fine and is unlikey to break. I do have a full size on one CRF230 (left of picture) just to keep people happly but I dont think it works well. I do use 6x4 where appropriate on another CRF 230 (right of picture) and I dont see much point going below this in these bikes. If you use a bigger plate on a sall bike - I do feel it is worthwhile putting a smaller plate eg 6x4 beneath it to get you home without worry when it goes. Flexi 7x5 , works for me I have smaller one's but look like they will attract attention of the constabulary

Same as - Had a 7X5 flexi for years, and no problems from the law. A 9X7 looks ridiculous, and in 'legal' perspex form is dangerous and not fit for purpose. |

Having **14 means I can cut down the width of a 9x7 and still be a legal size but after losing my rigid 9x7 twice on the one day I fitted it (on an LDT where they suggested there might be checks) I have gone the flexi route so at least it stays on after the odd dismount. |
