Heidenhau K60s for a small dual sport?

Post subject:  Heidenhau K60s for a small dual sport?
Hi...new to the forum so thought I'd start off with an easy one. Has anyone had any experience of the above tyres on a CRF, WR, DRZ etc.? Plenty of great reviews from the big ADV types but can't find much for smaller dual sports....perhaps that tells its own story. I imagine they'd last a fair while with a road bias...60/40?
Failing that, tyre recommendations for a CRF250L...I'm a plodder off road (but that's because the stock tyres are pants and I can't ride for sh**.... )

My head's hurting from reading reviews :?

looking at the price and the fact id never heard of them id recommend you buy a quality brand rather than a cheapie (or not so as it appears!).

As for their off road capability id say they look a bit pants.

you'd be better off with a Pirelli MT21 or Continental TKC, both give exceptional road manners and are perfectly capable on the dirt in all but the most extreme muddy conditions.

The Scouts have a great reputation.

I have not used them, but much longer lifr thn TKC 80s, maybe TKC70s?

A "moneys no object" TRF member, friend if mine chose to have his new gsa shod in Heidenau befire riding to China with globe busters (kevin sanders is also a new trf member). https://www.globebusters.com/ He did mention the tyres needed replacing after he got there!

My tuppence worth having just spent a pleasant few hours trying not to embarass myself on my CRF250L following a personal tour of Mick Extances site near Oswestry.

If you must have a dual purpose tyre the heidenau would be an interesting choice as well as tge others above.

Personally I use a michelin AC10 rear and michlin comp tyre on the front.

For road use I would look to buy a second hand set of wheels for 250 and michelin prt 4.

It doesnt take long to swap

They came fitted to my CCM. I'd say they are a decent 50/50 tyre once scrubbed in. Decent on road and on dry trails, grass even rocks. Total pants in soft mud and squirrelly, but controllable and predictable on wet grass and rocks. Not like a knobbly but you're getting decent road manners and life too. They do the job if you avoid the mud and ride accordingly... plus you can push things along a bit on the black stuff.

They are actually a quality German tyre manufacturer

I stand corrected then, they just sound a bit Cheng shin!

And at nearly £70 a rear I can think of a lot better performing tyres more suited to green laning. I guess it all depends on how much road use you'll expect to do. Personally I dont do much, so I want a tyre that works off the black top best. If you wanna do a lot of tarmac then you'll always have to compromise its grip on the trails.

I use the mich comp 3 rear and usually throw it after a few months. And usually between 750-1000 miles of use. To me it's not about the cost or the life of a tyre it's about being able to ride with confidence. Sure there's plenty of tyres that will last 1000s of miles but come the nitty gritty they're pants.

Horses for courses and all that.

I've been really impressed with the MT21 set my 690 came with.
Great fun on the road up to at least 80 (on a private drive) and cope with reasonable mud.
I am doing 50/50 road/trail and can't be bothered to buy another set of wheels at the moment, to be honest.

I would consider a direct like for like replacement when the time came as otherwise I would only be guessing amd that has cost me dear in the past.

A trail riding weekend in Wales may determine things a bit more at the end of May.
Also seeing what Patsy Q fits to her 690's at the end of April.

Thanks for the replies gents...it's always going to be a compromise...the entire bike is a compromise :lol: Considering the way I ride, I'd always opt for better road manners and take it easy on the trails. From what I gather, even dedicated off road tyres tend to do well one type of terrain and not so well in another....I reckon those K60s would be too stiff on a small trail bike; they're designed with middle-aged GS riders in mind (obligatory suitcases, 50+ kgs of "absolutely necessary touring equipment" ;) )

The Michelin T63s seem to get a good press; may go with these...Cheers
