Hi all,

Do any of you use them, is it worth paying a few extra quid to upgrade to one and would there be any difference?

I've got one...couldn't tell any difference to be honest...might last a little longer though..

There is so much marketing BS surrounding spark plugs.
If the bike has the correct plug in good condition, upgrading to anything else will make no obvious difference. Any differences are theoretical, and VERY small in practice.
An Iridium should last a lot longer than a standard plug, but in a 2 stroke will probably be fouled with deposits before it's worn out.

They are designed for high revving high compression race engines where the spark needs to be powerful quick and arrive critically on time. As said they are no good for 2 strokes and when a standard plug which works as it should costs £2 and an iridium one costs £10 it's really false economy for any potential minimal gain. Best practice is to use what the manufacturer recommends as far as make, grade etc as this is what their R&D department found was best suited for the engine. Plugs don't break down like they used to in the 70s and 80s when we used leaded fuels.

My WR250F starts better in cold conditions with an Iridium plug.

I've no idea why, but there you are.

I found the same.
I believe they are supposed to give a stronger spark and put less load on the coil. So are better at coping with a battery that is not fully charged.

I use NGK iridium spark plugs in all of my engines and I have never had any spark plug issues. I can't prove that they​ work any better than the standard items but in our trials bikes we never had need to remove them.

Maybe it is just what you get used to and in which you have confidence.

I've had a batteryless kickstart only Yamaha WR400 for over 10 years now, it came fitted with an NGK Iridium plug and I replaced it after 7 years simply as I thought it was about time I changed it, yet there was nothing wrong when I removed the old one... still have it as a spare ;)

On a bike like this the spark plug is critical for reliable starting and got to say that in all the years that I've had this bike it's been good at starting and I'm sure the Iridium plug has played a part in that.

I found a good improvement on a 300 2t.I cant explain why but the bike is smoother with less vibes at idle.

I recently fitted one in my 450EXC before racing in the Tour of Portugal, didn't notice the slightest difference!
