Post subject:  What size MT21?

I think I'm going to go for a MT21's on the DR but not sure on the sizing? The manual says 110/90 but Pirelli only offer the 110/80, 120/90 or 130/90? Currently have a pair of Michelin AC10's the rear is 110/100, any advice appreciated.

All AC 10s are oversized. E.g. A 110 is more like a 120 and a 120 is more like a 140. This is because the knobbles are a lot taller as they are mx tyres.

I always ran a 120 rear MT21 on my DR350 and seem to recall a 140 is way to wide and rubbed.

A 110/100 with its taller side wall will squash out more and give a similar foot print to a 120/80 that's not so squashed. If you follow my drift.

FYI. The 110 or 120 refers to the width in mm. and the /80 /90 refers to the height of the side as a percentage of the width.

So a 110/100 is 110 wide and 110 tall. A 120/80 is 120mm wide but only 96mm tall.

Don't get too hung up on tyre size. 10mm in the width won't make a lot of difference. But unless it's snow your riding in, the wider is better.

When you had your DR did you still run the chain guard? I like to keep it on so I wonder if a 120 might be too wide and will rub?

Funny story that, no I didn't but I'm sure the 120 clears!

I ended up with 6 plastic chain guards in the garage after years of DR ownership. I put them all on ebay and each one made between about £45-£50. kerching!

A 120/90x18 will fit nicely on a DR350 if that's the bike you've got. I've used DR350 's for 23 years and used MT21's for a good while.

Has anyone got any recommended suppliers for MT21s, my usual supplier closed last year so resorted to eBay for the last one, but gonna need another one soon for my TTR600
