Hi can anybody let me know if Stanage Edge has been reopened, the Trailwise site says it was closed to vehicles in June 2008 for repairs.

Does it?? We rode it last weekend and there were loads of 4x4's and quads heading up it too. I certainly didn't see any signs to say it was closed.

Hopefully, it's just that TrailWise is out of date (I think it's a really good website but we don't seem very good at keeping it updated (I'm as guilty as everyone else))

The Long Causeway at Stanage is open again but the voluntary restraint order still applies:

Long Causeway: The Authority has also been instrumental in drawing up a voluntary Code of Respect for the Long Causeway across Stanage Edge. The Code was agreed through the Stanage Forum, which includes all interest-groups, and it will be piloted this summer. (written in 2006) It includes: Group-sizes limited to four 4x4s or six trail-bikes Speed-limits of 5mph for 4x4s and 20mph for trail-bikes Sensitivity to wildlife breeding and archaeological sites Giving way to other users Users to be fully road-legal A voluntary one-way system (east to west ie down the Edge) Keeping to the track Limited use in wet weather Voluntary repair-work on erosion Spreading the message about responsible use.

And remember TrailWise relies on its users to keep it updated, it has now been corrected in light of the comments above, so thanks for the info.
