What's the noticeable difference between a 80/100X21 and a 90/90X21 front tyre. I understand the width versus profile difference but has anybody found a difference in performance or effect on suspension when actually riding. Just wondering as I feel that my Beta XT felt better on the 80/100 profile. (However different makes of tyre may be the difference)

I've never noticed the difference.

A more direct comparison is looking at the actual height of the tyre

90/90 Height is 90mm x 90% = 81mm

80/100 Height is 80mm x 100% = 80mm

So I don't think 1mm less height in the tyre is going to be noticable, although the 10mm less width might but as I've said above I certainly can't.

Of course different manufacturers measure their tyres in different ways and 90mm across the tread blocks could be exactly the same as 80mm measured across the carcass. As you say the different feel is more likely due to different makes of tyre

What tony said. They're the same, just 1 is wider. Michelin comp 6 front is 90/100 so is a little taller by its not noticeable.

Greetings,

With most front tyres the difference is not massive, more a case of how you personally feel but the rears can make a difference as they run close to the front of the swing arm where there might not be the same clearance.

Probably the big difference is how soft the sidewalls are for the same tyre pressure and the actual grip of the tread under differing conditions bearing in mind the different compounds used by different manufacturers :?

Enjoyed the video thanks, not all noise like some of them.

Hugh.
