No offence taken and don't take my reply as a dig. Just "Banter"
As someone who has done a lot of solo riding, I think some people make it a mandatory statement "don't ride alone", which i cannot understand.

Riding alone, is when you have your best days riding.
No one to worry about apart from yourself.
No one dictate the route,
No one to distract your thoughts.
The risk of it all, must be on my A game, bike cant let me down, if it does i must get it going etc etc
Its you against the world.

Jupiters travels was a game changer for me.

I'd agree with your sentiments, with a small caveat:

Experience!

As a member of the TRF, people new to riding away from tarmac face quite a few risks. Many of which can be mitigated by riding in a group as part of a normal TRF 'run'.

get the experience in as safe a way as possible. Then go head-off on your own......

Whichever way you choose, enjoy!

We seem to be a little off topic. :D

To return to the original post...hire van of choice is a SWB Hi-Top Transit.

Put two trail/enduro bikes in facing forwards and you can get a third bike in facing backwards.

You can put riding gear on the cab roof (the body roof goes over the cab roof) to keep the cab interior area clear.

The cab seats 3 in reasonable comfort.

Be aware....hire vans are ply lined. If you get oil or mud soaked into the ply floor, the hire company will charge you big time to replace it as they argue that most of their hires are to people wanting to move furniture etc.

So put a plastic sheet or cardboard down before loading.

I think RIDE covers it

3 in a tranny will be tight with gear.

Done it a few times...South Wales to Dorset via Bath and return 3 riders, 3 bikes, and 3 lots of gear + 3 x big lunch too!

Yes, it is tight, but you can get all the gear in if you use the roofspace wisely.

It is very good advice, especially if given to a new or inexperienced rider, Not to ride alone. In the end it is only advice which you are free to leave or take away.

What is mandatory is that if you want to ride on the public roads you must have a road legal bike, ( Insurance, MOT, RFL etc) wear a helmet and adhere to the highway code. Beyond that its up to you. One thing for sure in this day and age ......there is no shortage of advice. Most of it comes free and without soliciting.

as for van hire. Why not.....i would ( in preference to using a trailer) if i didn't have one and needed it for a trip and could afford it. And there is good advice been offered as what you need to be wary of when hiring a van. I only use my van if i am on one of my smaller bikes and the journey to the meeting point is more than an hour or so or the weather conditions on the highway are really bad. Fog and Ice. With the 690 i will go a bit further. Not quite got the "cahonies" that JP1st has and ride to the ends of the country though.

I have had two bikes a wr and xr400 In the back of a lwb connect. Granted I had to strap one of the rear doors shut, one goes in easy though with the doors shut. Also something like a fiat scudo fits a bike easy with doors shut

Riding alone is fine, I often do it now but just ride slow and enjoy the countryside. riding in a group is a laugh for the social side of it...which I do prefer to be honest.. Meeting people and having a laugh is what makes trail riding fun..
