Anyone use Slime in their inner tubes? Any good?

Could be an alternative to carrying a spare tube.

I use it, no punctures in three years..although that maybe just luck...I see it as belt and braces , but always carry a spare tube ( not HD)...etc...

Greetings,

Do n't know of the tubed version myself but I don't see how it would work since the tube when inflated is under tension it should fail just as a toy balloon thereby letting the active air escape into the inner tyre and wheel rim cavity, to escape past the spoke nipples and sidewall on a tubed wheel  Some non flanged spoked wheels, e.g. GAS GAS trials, have a tightly fitted inner rubber band to prevent air loss of their tubeless tyres.

I have used such product in my tubes not to stop air loss but to act as an inner surface tube lubricant and prevent compression failures, commonly known as snake bite punctures ;)

I do use HD tubes and apply plenty of talcum powder to the tube before fitting them, acts as an outer lubricant between the tube and the inner surface of the tyre, I also smell nice when I'm fixing punctures

I raced the All Terrain Rally championship for three years plus trail riding in between rallies on my CCM 604E with H/D tubes (and Maxxis Cross IT/SI tyres) and never had a single puncture, so Joel you may have been just lucky too.

It should have shown if you've had a puncture as the green slime leaks out onto the tread

The only punctures I've had in the last ten years have been on my 990 Adventure (the hardest one to change tyres on of course)! and both of those were on the road :(

But since swapping the CCM for a 450 EXC it's run on mousses so problem solved.

I do run 15 psi, and tend not to smash it into square edge rocks..mostly.

I always ran 15psi but I'm crap at avoiding stuff so tend to crash straight through and trust the WP forks to take the hit.... still never punctured
