Greetings,

Looks like a really attractive lane.

Although I do n't live down your end of the world the system is the same throughout England and Wales. All County Councils have to hold two documents; called the Definitive Map and the List of Streets. These are paper documents but most are transcribed onto computer systems, as with all systems the data can be slightly out of date with the real world.

Your local council seems to have a good system, may I suggest that you take a look at;

https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/land-wast ... statement/

Hope this helps somebody.

TTFN

Hugh.

It's quite unusual for Highway Authorities to signpost roads on the list of streets (UCRs/ORPA/White Roads etc) but West Sussex is one of them.

Hertfordshire is the same where they are signposted as "Public Highways"

Hey Stewie,

Do you have a grid reference for one of the ends?

Thanks

I've got an old map of the G Roads of West Sussex but it doesn't show anything but this looks like something different.
I have seen 'Public Way' elsewhere that mean the same as Byway but West sussex are a weird bunch, from what I can tell.

You may have to go to their records office to see the actual documents.
JP1 knows about the West Sussex routes so PM him.
If not, a few of the Sussex Group are experts.
