Excuse the noddy question from someone who has been around bikes for many years, but I want to buy a spare chain for my 2015 WR250F. As the bike is so new, there doesn't seem to be the normal choice in the market (typically I buy off ebay), so my question is in two parts

1) would any 520 o link chain be ok? and is it just the number of links that I need to consider or is there something else?
2) for standard green lane use, what do people recommend as I have bought some real crap in the past that just hasn't lasted

Interestingly, Fowlers M/C in Bristol quoted me £223 for a DID 520 Yamaha sourced chain!!

Thanks for your inputs in advance

In the end, I always tend go with DID O Ring. But that price is outrageous.
From memory, around £65 or so?

Lots of fake DID about if you are not carefully.

DID VX2520. I only use these now. X ring and last for ages in trail riding use. The 120 link (need to shorten to your needs) with Spring link or soft rivet retail at around £69 (or more)!

Ouch!

You should be able to pick that up with front and rear sprockets for a tad over £100, try Smokn bike spares - Alan I think it is and tell him your a TRF member, gives a bit of discount.

Count the number of links on your current chain and that will tell you the minimum length to get.
Having had problems with split links on first bike I would suggest using a soft link.

The advice on the type of chain to get varies, some recommend a basic but good quality chain and clean it properly after each ride, others will say get an X ring.

As for cost though as already said you should be able to get a complete chain and sprocket set of less tha £100.
