OK I'm just prepping my TTR250 for green lanes and putting a tool kit together, who caries tube patching kit? Is there a preffeded brand? if so which one and what is the best pump to carry? Cheers N

Just carry a front tube as it can be used in both wheels.
Get yourself some co2 bottle inflators and the adaptor/cycle pump.
I also take patches but rarely use them,as just change the tube.
Don't bother with slime liquid stuff as it very rarely works.

I'd agree but would say if you're going for a longer ride take a rear tube also. Front tube in the rear is a get you home measure - it may not last too long!

I also go for a spare tube, I normally ride with a mate who carries a rear tube so we are covered both ways

Greetings,

Gaffer tape spanners and tyre levers that fit your axle nuts to the frame, practice removing your wheels and take note of any spacers (colour code them if need be) also check how the brake pads fit. There are specialist axle nut spanners which have tyre spoon ends, excellent but more expensive.

I have found that the Motion Pro (other makes are available) Beady Buddy is a really useful little tool when refitting your tyre.

Use plenty of talcum powder on the tube and the inside of the tyre plus commercial tyre soap around the bead edges and not washing up liquid or WD40. Your local tyre fitters will probably sell you some if you take a butter tub or yogurt pot along ;)

Hugh.

Carry whatever tools you use to fit the wheels at home.
If you use a big spanner to do the nut up at home you will need one to undo it on the trail.

Tubes front and back like this. says heavy duty but quite thin so packs up small.

3 tyre Levers like this:

High volume pump

but never turn down a co2 if offered.

Ideally carry some patches and someone can patch the punctured tube for a spare as you fit the new one.

The most important thing is to practice at home. It is not difficult once you understand the technique but on a hill side, in the pouring rain, as it is getting dark is the wrong place to learn.
Have a look at this and similar vids there are loads on you tube and get a technique that works for you.

Good luck

15psi front and back, spare front tube (patches never work in the wet/damp)... I have slime in as well, not sure if it works, but no punctures in three years now...(yes I know I said it now !)

Thanks guys I have the tools except for the pump and patches ,I've changed a couple of tubes on my transalp but pinched one and when I tried to patch it with a cycle patch it wouldn't hold the pressure needed to seat the bead ( I had that tube in and out 3 times :x ). So I could do with some recommendations for decent patches capable of holding 40 psi or there about.

Good advice from previous posters.

These puppies do the trick splendidly

Glue from the same seller.

I don't patch on the trail but would repair the tube later. When travelling I carry front and rear full size HD tubes but for a day's trailriding, a skinny, cheap 21" only.

You shouldn't need 40psi to get a tyre to seat; especially if it's already been fitted once. Bike pump (I use a topeak mountain morph) should get you there easily.
