Hi

I have the usual side stand issue with my KTM 250 EXC (can it really be that hard to make a side stand that always breaks??). Anyway the lug on the frame has snapped.

I've read the Trail Tech after market stand is better than the KTM original. Does anyone have any experience of the Trail Tech stand? Also does the Trail Tech stand need that lug to fit it, or does it bolt off somewhere else like the foot peg?

Info welcome.
thanks

Simon

Trail tech are excellent. They are fitted onto 2 points of the bike depending on year of bike.

You can get on and off the bike using the stand and can kick start it with the stand down, with you standing on the pegs.

A touch expensive but peace of mind

Hi Paul

Yes, but what are the two fixing points? Minds a 2005 4t, but as mentioned the fixing point on the frame has snapped.

Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon,

If you have a snapped fixing point then you will not be able to use the Trail tech one. They supply new bolts and everything to secure onto the frame.

5013 is the part number you require, however the fixing point needs sorting.

If you can weld then I suggest you pop down too your local bike breakers, and buy a steel side stand with the spring and bolt, and if you ask nicely the lug it attaches too on the frame.
My breaker cuts the section off a bent or mangled frame and sells it as a usable side stand, you just need to weld the lug onto your broken frame in the right position.Just double check it's position when up and down. You might have too extend its length too make it sit right.
Something I am in the process of doing now.Although bolting my new bracket on similar to trail tech one,but FAR cheaper option.

I have the trailteck on my 2005 450 exc and I had to weld the lug back on at work
It wasn't a big job if you know someone that can weld

I have a Trailtech on my 450EXC and it is good. They claim they are designed to take the weight of the rider so you can kick start the bike on the stand. Yes that sort of correct but I have managed to snap two trailtech pivot bolts, the last time it meant i lost the stand somewhere in Morocco :(

The bolts are fairly cheap so I bought an extra spare last time, sadly the replacement stand wasn't very cheap!!!
