Hi all , I'm looking to buy a gps system for my bike ,
What do you all use .
I'm looking for something I can load a gpx file onto and then follow a route .
I have tried with viewranger on my iPhone but find it hard to use so any advice would be great .

Thanks

I currently use a Satmap 10, excellent route planning software, robust unit. have used it most weekends for a few years.

Only downside is in bright sunshine it can be hard to view, with the waterproof cover on.

If I had the dosh my unit of choice is a garmin Montana. £450 new with all the mounts and mapping we require.

Hope that helps

I have always gone with caution and put the rubber cover on when the unit could possibly get wet/drowned.

Never wanted to test it fully, but the battery area seems where the wires go into the unit.

Probably just like your phone, you follow a line as a route. No instructions to turn left etc.

It has been a great bit of kit the service is excellent from Satmap themselves.

I went from a sat map 10 to a Garmin 600 the sat map was a nice bit of kit but I found the garmin screen size and ease to follow better

I've got both Satmap and Garmin Montana.
Satmap - difficult to see in any sunlight. You need the waterproof cover on when it is raining as water gets behind the screen protector making it even more difficult to see. The mapping itself is also not very clear when you compare it to a Garmin. A big plus for the Satmap is that its battery is excellent and will last all day.
Garmin Montana - best unit available but at a price. The rugged mount can be wired to the bikes battery if it has one. Very good screen and easy to see in all conditions.
If you can afford it buy the Garmin with full GB mapping.

Used a Sat map for four years or more.
I had been told the Garmin Montana 600 was far better, and I agree. Its far superior to a Sat map.
I have used the Montana for a year now in all conditions and it's brilliant.
They are under £300 at Millet sports.Which includes the full UK os map.Only thing you will need to buy extra is the powered mount and ram mount.

I use Viewranger and I like it.
I find it easy to use, easy to create a route, but a real pain to edit a route (my fault as I use lots of waypoints)

The Montana may find it's way on to my Christmas list though at that price!
